Vashishta Gufa

Why I Like Caves

I’ve been to a lot of mandirs, ashrams, and other Dharmic pilgrimage sites throughout my life.

This one stands out.

Vashishta Gufa.

It’s hardly noticeable, most folks will probably have more fun feeding the cows on the walk there from the road to the shallow cave.

But every time I’ve been in Rishikesh, I try to make a trip.

Vasishtha is one of the Saptarishis. This is the gufa where he did his taap.

And it is one of my favorite places in Bharat.

Those moments of sitting in his cave doing dhyan, followed by the short walk to the Ganga to cup a handful of water and drink the prasad.

I don’t know how else to describe it other than this experience of perfect stillness.

Ironically I took few if any photos.
