I’m crashing out here. I do not believe that anyone can efficiently do “knowledge work” on a phone.
How does text selection and copying have this much friction.
How did I type more accurately on my Nexus 5 than I do on whatever iPhone Pro I got passed from a relative.
Why do I not have a proper file explorer. Why in the Lord’s good name is there no terminal.
How is switching between apps this cumbersome.
Both my internships back in the Before Times had me doing my work on VMs either running on my laptop or on an underpowered box in the cloud somewhere.
I thought we figured out back then that we need both a low latency and a better I/O experience than a “normal computer”. Literally the only employer that I know that made it work was Google, everyone I know there loves the toolin.
Back to the point. My phone has significantly more compute. These problems do not need to exist.
Unfortunately the trend has been locking down more and more. The tag isn’t politics, but ID Verification (sure you can call it age) aside, how is Europe better than us at forcing our companies to open up. At one point we went toe-to-toe with Bell Labs.
But. Not politics.
On the bright side, I recently found out about Procreate Pocket and Sketchbook.
One-time purchases. Pretty decent UX for a touch screen. Amazing what happens when dedicated teams make dedicated experiences.
My poor Rust program is collecting dust.
